The life and work of Maria Prymachenko (1909-1997) is a colorful whirlpool of sunny and underground colors the mystery of which is unraveled by each new generation of the 20th and subsequent centuries. The naive style suited the folk artist not only for drawing colorful plants and animals, but also for creating deep allegories. Sometimes the bright childish mask of the work hides the terrible images of the past: the black monkey represents Stalin’s repressions; the forest bird, single mother in the post-war years; the sad bare horse, the waiting for a loved one from the war.
